Where a winter garden meets engineering.

A product engineering project in which I used a Product Life Cycle approach to take a winter garden from design and production through rainwater management and on-site installation.

Starting point

First, understand how the product stands up.

I did not begin by simply executing a finished drawing. I studied the AutoCAD files, product components and installation sequence end to end to understand the logic of the system.

I focused on which decisions affected structural integrity, which details shaped water behaviour and which tolerances determined assembly quality.

My role on site

Bridging technical intent and execution.

Throughout the installation, I explained the work sequence and critical points to the craftspeople. I checked the work step by step to help ensure the product was assembled as designed.

The plan could not simply be copied onto the site. Problems introduced by the terrain and production process had to be solved without losing sight of the technical intent.

  • Making installation steps visible and traceable
  • Establishing a shared technical language with the craftspeople
  • Checking the product form against on-site measurements
  • Evaluating function and appearance together during final inspection

Critical decision

Designing an invisible route for rainwater.

The dome's form was not purely an aesthetic decision. I evaluated the surface, joints and surrounding environment together so rainwater could move in the right direction without collecting on the product.

By reassessing the relationship between the product form and drainage paths on site, I worked with the installation team to implement practical adjustments.

What stayed with me

Seeing how decisions made at the drawing board changed on site gave me a more holistic view of product development.
